So pretty... I long to work on a costume. Alas. I can only serve one master at a time.

I hear ya. I can't even keep my house clean or feed my family properly while working on a costume. It is ALL CONSUMING!

...but what you are doing instead is totally magnificent!

Inquiring minds wish to know, what was this "better way to make them easier to deal with"? :) If it's not a future trade secret, that is. ;)

Nah, no trade secrets with the big dresses anymore. I'm such a sticker for making things easy to adjust, whether it's instantly or through a bonehead easy alteration... I think I'm so obsessed with that becasue I got burned a few times when I accidently got a teensy bit fat and couldn't wear my costume. Anyway, after I assembled the sleeves, I realized I totally hosed the lace... they can never be removed-- well, not easily, anyway-- not for cleaning or repair or anything. So, next time, I will make the lacy bits separately with a binding and just loosely whipstitch them in. This is historically accurate, so it's hardly a grand idea. I just realized after I already made them that it's a mistake to create ALL one piece. I will still make the actual sleeve the same weay, because it's dead easy to alter with a few spare minutes. Hopefully that made sense. In my quest to make everything adjustable and easy to wear sometimes I forget logic-- like needing to wash lace cuffs. Oopsie.
