Carole Lombard, Marlene Dietrich and Jean Harlow

Jun 07, 2005 16:32

I want to do a series of icons featuring lots of different classic actresses, some of which I've never iconed before. First lot: Carole Lombard, Marlene Dietrich and Jean Harlow, three lovely ladies of the 1930s. If anyone has any specific suggestions for future posts, let me know. I have ideas for two sets but I'm open to more ( Read more... )

Beautiful as always. As for suggestions, hmm. Barbara Stanwyck, Betty Grable, Ava Gardner...

Oh yay! I'll be excited to see those. Along with Rita Hayworth, those three are amongst my favorites. I also forgot to mention Veronica Lake, but she may be on the list. Thank you so much for making such beautiful icons!

Veronica's in there somewhere. Gosh, seeing as I plan three actresses per post, this shall be going on forever, lol. Oh well, it gives me something to do.

You know what i love so much about your icons? You always make the ppl look so sharp, yet glowy and clear at the same time. I can't seem to do that. Any hints? They're wonderful, eps the Carole ones!

Hmm, well I always sharpen the base before I do anything else. Habit I guess, I'm sure I can cope without doing that first ;) Then I duplicate the layer and smooth out the skin with the blur tool, just don't go over eyes and lips. Then I use the sharpen tool to sharpen up the eyes some more if it needs doing. After I've merged those two layers, I sometimes duplicate and set the layer to soft light and then run a gaussian blur of about 3 through it. That makes it a little softer. I usually have to reduce the opacity though as it makes the icon too dark and contrast-y. I'm sure there are other things I do, I just can't think of it right now. That's pretty much the only thing I do on every single icon though.

Yeha I always sharpen mine first then duplicate and set to screen at aout 50 then duplicate again and set to soft lite and try the blur tool. Thanks for the tips, mind if I try it out?

Sometimes messing around with levels can be more effective than screening although it depends on the picture. Screening tends to make it more washed out but levels have to be spot on otherwise they look odd. And you're fine to try it out! =)

Oh dear me... I've saved ever so many icons over this weekend, but I'm going to take all of these! They're absolutely beautiful! :D

As far as actress suggestions go - I have no idea, my mind is blank.

I know the feeling, I have so many zillions of icons on the computer. I've started putting icon posts into memories rather than just saving everything I love or my computer will be full up within a month. There are too many talented icon makers out there! I'm just glad I'm not in that many 'mainstream' fandoms or it would be even worse. Anyways, enjoy the icons! =)
