Aki's zoni/ Schoolgirl tights rant/ ACIII 84% completion + Jager Bomb

On Saturday SIL Aki and her family came over! She brought over a big pot of zoni-- it's like a hearty soup that is traditionally eaten around New Year, apparently. It was DELICIOUS and made six servings! Little Kureha (age 2) was really taken by the Budgie Buddy my mom got us for Christmas.

I would always laugh in the winter while standing at a train platform in the snow surrounded by skinny Japanese girls wearing short shorts and not-warm-enough jackets with scarves and hats going "samusamusamusamu" and I'm thinking "IF YOU'RE SO COLD, WEAR PANTS!"

I feel like one of my students told me once that the Japanese have some sort of belief that if you keep certain things warm like your neck and head, then you don't need to keep other things like your legs warm. That's pretty ridiculous though.

Yeah, I've heard that old chestnut myself-- the way I heard it was that if you keep your BELLY warm, then your whole body will be warm. Maybe my students just should've been wearing haramaki or something. That would've solved the problem. Yeah.

We sometimes have small girls brought in to kindergarten with short skirts or pants and no tights - in the middle of winter. Something seems to be broken with some Japanese parents and their daughters... I really like wearing skirts, and I even wear short pants (wool pants though) in winter, but always with heattech tights and on the warmer days, because I'm not completely crazy.
