Did you read Life as We Knew It, a/k/a the incredibly disturbing book in which the moon gets knocked out of orbit by an asteroid and the increased gravity causes volcanic eruptions and the ash blocks out the sun and there's effectively nuclear winter? There's an ice skating scene in that, you just reminded me.
