OK, my whole review & English-major-type breakdown of Harry Potter & the Half-Blood Prince.

So don't read this if you haven't seen it yet. There are spoilers about the movie here, even if you have read the book. )

Have to say I agree with you with the exception of a couple of things. The spider thing could have been totally left out. Yes, the pincer moment was quite funny but the humor could have been found in another scene. The Lav-Lav/Won-Won saga got old very quickly, I would have preferred more about the significance of the Advanced Potions book and the effect on Harry. There was so much learned about Snape in the book and I think it was vital. Apparently so did JKR or she wouldn't have made it the primary subject of the book. It wasn't "Harry Potter & the Angst of Teenage Love".

Luna....."sometimes they have been known to break into song on Boxing Day". Her delivery of lines is so unique.

Definitely Slughorn and Draco, each of those characters were done excellently.

I don't think this was my favorite of the 6 movies, well 5 for me since I never watched 2 (reference to above mentioned spider), I would have to say the GOF was my favorite, then POA followed by OOTP before HBP. This now rates 2nd in line.

I'll say I'd gladly swap some Lav/Ron scenes for anything on Snape. But I don't think any of it would have really involved Snape himself since what we learn in the book via Hermione's research about the surname Prince was for his mother...but we don't know it's his mother till the end anyway, when he admits he's the HBP.

It would also have opened another avenue of plot development which, in a movie like this, can be herd to follow. In the books there was plenty of time to elaborate but in the movie there is only so much time. So they focused on the 3 main characters, with everything else humming around them.
