Why This Must Be Read:
While Daniel is ascended SG-1 finds Sha're/Amaunet on a Goa'uld ship and manages to capture her and remove the symbiote. What follows is a fantastic study of both Sha're and Sam as Sha're slowly learns about the world of her husband and why these people are important to him and Sam finally gets to know the amazing strength of Daniel's wife.

The friendship and understanding that develops between Sam and Sha're - both as ex-hosts and as strong women is powerful and beautiful and the ramifications of Sam's time with Jolinar are deftly woven into the story. If there's one AU I wish had actually happened on the show, this would be it.

Teaching’s never come naturally to Sam; she’s always been told she goes too fast, doesn’t make allowances for the fact that not everyone’s mind works the way hers does. And Daniel would probably tell her this is some terrible form of cultural contamination, but she figures it’s too late to worry about that now.

Anyway, she remembers that he’d organized Skaara and the other boys into a regular militia, and gets that familiar ache in her chest, wishing he was here so she could argue with him, shake him, hang onto him.

She tries another pistol, bigger and heavier - it looks huge in Sha’re’s small hands, but the greater mass means it won’t kick back so hard. Something solid, something with stopping power. She can give her that, at least.

And sometimes you just need to blow the shit out of something.

"Remember to breathe out," she says. "Squeeze the trigger gently while you exhale."

Sha’re lowers her glasses, squares her shoulders and lifts the gun again.
