Madness here is neither strewn flowers or drowned girls' songs. The madwomen here wake up shivering in the infirmary, eyes trained on teammates who are gone. The crazed ranting of the lunatic is not about fennel but about death.

When Teal'c goes mad, they strap him to a bed and try to sedate him, but he still screams for his god. When Daniel goes mad, he sees things that aren't there, threats that aren't real.

But at the SGC, death and gods and threats are never entirely absent, and the only real way to avoid madness is to avoiding remembering.
