Well, I tried.

I mean, I really tried.  And...I just don't like Twilight.  It's just the flowery nonsense of it all.  Maybe it is because I was a fan of the Anne Rice Vampire chronicles way back when or maybe it is because I liked Buffy, but something about this book just isn't meshing for me.  Believe me, I have tried to get into it.  I made special time just ( Read more... )

Don't worry about it, Breaking Dawn completely ruined the series for me. I thought the other books were fluffy and fun with just the right amount of drama, but Breaking Dawn was like a bad fanfiction and very disappointing. :(

YES.

Oh it was bad. So bad. It was kind of like a train wreck... I had to keep reading just to see how it turned out.

I liked reading about *here be spoilers* Bella finally turning into a vampire, and I also liked the dynamic between Bella and Jacob, and the whole Jacob and his friends being werewolves thing. But instead 80% of the book was about Bella's half-vampire/half-human baby and all the very disgusting imagery of how it was wreaking havoc on her body. DO NOT CARE KTHX. JUST WANT EPIC VAMPIRE BATTLES NAO. And then the "epic vampire battle" was completely anticlimactic.

Not to mention how utterly turned off I was by how Bella became a barely-18 wife and mother practically overnight. Because this is totally a role model I'd want for my hypothetical kids.

Bella is mostly a dumb bitch anyway, but fortunately the other characters were enough to hold my interest in the books. But wow, I HATED her by the end of the series.

I've heard nothing but bad things from my writer friends about the series, so I let my hold on the book at the library expire. I don't want to read a load of tripe from an "author" who never wanted to be published in the first place while hundreds of writers out there struggle to have their often well-written works published. It's sad. :(

The weird thing is that I heard nothing but good things about the series. I even recommended the first one (before reading it) to Mistie because she wanted something new to read. Mistie instantly fell in love with the books and bought the entire series. I already knew that they were marketed towards young adults, so I wasn't expecting a literary masterpiece. Still, I was suprised with how disappointed I was. Oh well.
