Angela sighed in frustration as she visually scanned the Mess. The room was a groggy sea of red, gold, and blue, with very few familiar faces. She'd traded shifts as a favor to one of the other specialists, and as a result had no one to eat breakfast with. While she didn't usually mind eating alone, the Ensign was pretty sure she'd fall asleep in

He'd been rather engrossed in reading up on new theories on subspacial compression and hadn't heard Angela creep up on him. Pavel smoothed his hair down with one hand and cleared his throat, trying to act like he hadn't just jumped and screamed like a little girl, "Ah, hello? You are... Ensign Martine, yes? Angela reconsidered this. "Actually, no. I do want you to keep me company because I'll be really embarrassed if I sat with you and you ignore me. The fact that Pavel was still bright red despite the fact that he wasn't choking any longer had nothing to do with the way Sulu's hand was rubbing his back. Nothing at all. And he wasn't disappointed to see it go, either. Never mind that Sulu was so nice to him, and that he was so brave and smart and a hero to have made that jump to Vulcan and of course Pavel noticed that he was handsome, but it's not like they really talked outside the bridge so no, Pavel wasn't crushing on Sulu at all.
... Pavel slowly realized that he'd been asked a question. "Ah-- zat is, I--" he cleared his throat, "I, well, I am... I don't... I don't like girls?"
Was that rude of him to say? Would that offend Angela, who was a girl? He eyed her, beet-red. "Er, sorry?"

The Ensign tried very hard not to laugh, as Chekov seemed deeply worried about upsetting her. Though she correctly read his emotions, she misunderstood the reasoning. "Don't be sorry. You're not the one who dumped me for man." Sure it had been months, and she'd long ago forgiven Jim and Bones, but she had certainly not forgotten the whole thing. "But, uh... I can stop asking these awkward questions, if you'd like."

At the mention of the possibly cessation to this line of questioning he shot her a pleading look which clearly said "yes please"
