Wasn't it enough that he'd spent his whole life being instructed in these sorts of things? From close combat to tactics (heavens, he was tired of tactics) to 'survival training' as if he'd never learned anything about the hardships and skills necessary on long journeys.

So it was with ill-concealed poor grace that Endymion filed into the classroom. He eyed the equipment, which did, at least, suggest this class would be different than what he was accustomed to. Good.

Within another moment, he'd found a spot near the wall where he waited as comfortably as possible in his cadet uniform (which was frankly much more wearable than the clothing he'd worn at home).

Peter had dropped onto a crate right near the front, and waited patiently for class to begin.

Nephrite followed shortly after Endymion. Truth be told he was glad to have to be taking this class; he had always enjoyed being challenged to his limits and, more importantly, emerging as the winner. He spots the teacher and nods, satisfied that at least he was already there.

Somehow there is a girl sitting perfect onto of one of the crates, no toes hanging over, no pieces of fabric. She's managed to curl up holding her knees to her chest watching the others as they move about and talk. River remains quiet though listening and trying to block things out.

To many things in her head as students let emotions run rampant on what they could be doing here. Resting her chin on her knees she seems to almost frown. Hopefully class would start soon.

Bones was leaning against River's crate with a frown, one hand draped almost unthinkingly on her shoulder. He didn't want to be here. Didn't want to have to do this. Knew exactly what could happen if things went wrong...

For a moment as he stared at the controls of the vacuum, images of twisted metal stained red, ruined flesh, and the acid scent of burning fuel and flesh. He shuddered and shook his head.

This wasn't a ship. This was a highly controlled room that had only one reported malfunction. He knew. He'd checked.

Turning her eyes up toward Len, the younger girl gave a brief flash of a mischievous grin. There had only been two time River had ever been out in space while on Serenity and both times she had loved it. Space was like dancing- so graceful were the movements that the thoughts of think metal and material keeping you from dying fast never seemed to enter into her mind. It was like water, like having the pointe shoes on and moving in patterns like a feather in the air. Even if McCoy wasn't going to enjoy it she was.

"Can't get hurt here," she said to him picking up on his thoughts and feelings. "No red, no twisted parts. That's for Reavers and Reavers aren't here. This is serenity."

That was still slightly un-nerving the way she could do that. Read him like he was a book for her to open and close at will. It wasn't a bad thing....but for a man who had spent his life closed off from everyone, it was something that took some getting used to. Peering over at her, he rolled his eyes and frowned.

"Reavers didn't bring that shuttle down, kid, a popped bolt did. Something so minor...." He felt his stomach lurch, and swallowed reflexively.

There were sounds of someone running not to far off. By the time the figure was at one end of the field she was suddenly with the rest of the students, skidding to a stop and glancing about with an embarrassed smile upon her face. After clearing her throat Jaina straightened her uniform as best she could before checking her hair. Nope. She had been there the whole entire time.

Nephrite had, unfortunately, witnessed her late arrival. He nodded at her, but with a small, jesting smile the next words were uttered:

"You're late."

Taking up a seat on one of the crates, Jaina crossed her legs at the ankles and cast an innocent toothy grin in Neph's direction. "Late is class already having started. Being almost late is being here a minute before it does." Bravo hadn't even started introducing himself quite yet so far in her mind she was clearly half on time.

"Plus I can't help that my last class ran over. I forgot how long winded people could be."

He had to give her that, of course, since the class had not really started yet. Nephrite glanced at Bravo's direction, wondering just when they would start.

Her comment made him look at her again. "What was your last class?"
