How nice this was to read! It feels as if your misreading of the chart was meant to be, because I enjoyed seeing the charm of Lily through Moody's eyes, and in fact seeing them all relaxed and at ease. Plus the image of Remus wrestling with an extra large fish is rather wonderful! There's a poignancy to Moody's fears of course, and I like the line about his eye not being made for such bright light.

Thank you! It was all rather fortuitous - I glanced at this activity only in idle curiosity, but then the chart spit out such an interesting pair of characters, I couldn't help wanting to try something with them. And I like to think this also *kind* of includes the intended second character, since it doesmention Moody and Dumbledore talking (and did so before I even realized it was supposed to have been Dumbledore!) :-)

I can just see the scene! Bright sunlight, and young people laughing (the poor goldfish made me grin), and Lily making a case for finding happiness even in the midst of war. But it's interesting to see this from Mad-Eye's perspective, as someone who's seen enough bad things to be perpetually suspicious (and the constant physical discomfort of the false leg and the magical eye can't help).

But that's chilling foreshadowing, about always keeping wands in hand, because that was just what James didn't manage to do in the end. (Not that a wand would necessarily have helped against an immortal Voldemort, but, still.)

Yes, I hereby confess my weakness for fics about small, bright moments in dark times! :-)

I know, it is SO hard not to let any heartbreaking foreshadowing creep in. I don't even LIKE that kind of foreshadowing, I don't like adding reminders of how terrible things are going to be very, very soon, but sometimes it's just not possible to avoid with these characters. Same, indeed, for Remus and Tonks... Augh.
