What do you think is something I must do or see at Dragon Con? Aside from meeting you lot of course ;) If you have any other advice, I'd also appreciate it :) 16 days until we leave!!!
We are def doing the parade - marching with the Rebel Legion ;)
We might go to the Yule ball, we'll see. Might also make it to the Last Night on Alderaan party too. Depends how we feel I suppose. I'm not good with late nights anymore. I think I'll be running on adrenaline though. lol
I thought about going to some panels but I think I might only go to one or two if I absolutely MUST go. I would rather meet up with friends, but I do want to get some autographs even if I don't get to go to their panels.
Walk the Walk of Fame even if you don't plan to get any autographs or stand in line. It's amusing and entertaining to see some of your favorite actors there in the flesh. Once in a while someone has no line and you can walk right up and chat to them.
Make sure you get to the Dealer's Room to shop even if you don't go til Monday. By then, lots of stuff is one sale and sometimes, even though it's crowded it's fun to see all the fun unique stuff and get inspired for next year's costumes.
We are going to the Masked Ball on Friday night at 10pm. It's our first year so I don't know what to expect. Masks are required but if you don't have one there will be a ton on sale at the convention.
Walk the circuit (in one of your more comfortable costumes of course) from the Hyatt convention space through the Marriott and across to the Hilton and back. It's fun to 'cruise' a few times in the evenings to see and be seen. It's amazing what you still miss even if you do move around a bit.
The parade on Saturday morning. It's maybe more fun to march in it than to just watch. You have to be up early either way.
The Masquerade on Sunday night - from your or someone's hotel room on D*CTV - live at 8 or the replay at 10:30/11ish.
The Friday Night Costuming Contest - all about workmanship, not about skits. Usually no problem getting in to get a seat - it doesn't fill up the ballroom.
Cool you'll be in the parade! I'll be with the Doctor Who group.
Yeah it's nuts to try and get into the Hyatt Ballroom to watch the Masquerade. You'd have to queue hours earlier to get a seat you can barely see the stage from so you're watching it on the big screens anyway. More fun to have a room party/Masquerade snark party with friends :)
The highlight for me is almost always the Yule Ball; but I'm most active in the Harry Potter costuming community, so of course it's my favorite. As others have said, it's 90% who you are with and 10% actual content. :)
Definitely watch the Masquerade in a friend's room, so you can all hang out together and make fun of it. This is another highlight for me~
I always try to get up early and play in the day/afternoon, because the crowds and the noise after dark (when it turns into a big party/bar atmosphere) is too much for me.
As an addendum, worry more about meet-ups with friends than attending events. It is a HUGE con; if you don't plan to meet your friends, you might not. Last year I hardly saw anyone. The years that I packed full of panels and events were always the loneliest and least fun for me.
This is true, get a temporary phone if you can so you can text your friends and find them. I can't tell you how many times I have LOOKED for Maggie, or Cassandra at night and even though we are all in the Marriott, we keep missing one another.
I plan to get a US sim card for my unlocked phone. I just haven't worked out yet where I'll be able to buy one. I'm hoping maybe I can get one at LAX. We have a stop over for a few hours while waiting for our flight to Orlando.

Do you know when her panel is yet?

Hmmm, might have to think about the Masked ball. Not sure what I'd wear though.
Thanks for the advice. This is likely to be a once off thing for us so I want to experience as much as I can.

The masquerade is a bit manic to go to in person, isn't it? I'm thinking watching the replay is probably a good idea.
Ahhh, might have to check out the friday night contest. Depends on timing.
