I don't know about the rest, but I for one would love to see a sequel.

Yay! Thanks for all the comments! I think I'll go through with writing the sequel anyways, because I have ideas for it.

Good story; it's nice to see a semi-lengthy Septimus fic. I'll be waiting for the sequel.

Given my affection for dark, ruthless Septimus, I have to admit I wasn't entirely sure I'd like a 'good' Septimus, but I do like your version of the character, in large part because you kept his intelligence and dry sense of humor intact. :D And I do think there is something... pure about canonical Septimus' drive and ambition which could have been shaped into a more noble quality had he not been raised in Stormhold. I also really liked your use of the ghostly princes and the fact that Una actually got to do something proactive. :D Very much looking forward to a sequel. :D

I think when I was writing this Septimus, I was leaning more towards the Septimus in the book, who was merely ambitious for the throne (but not bloodthirsty). It is my understanding that, in the book, if the tradition had not existed, Septimus would not have killed his brothers.

On the other hand, I love the movie's version of Septimus, although I do find him more difficult to write because he's very single-minded in his task and if you took away away his goal of being king, who would he be? I'm having some difficulty figuring this out at the moment.

If you have any insightful thoughts about this, please do share, since I am a little stuck at the moment.

That's interesting, because I always thought that the Septimus of the book somehow came across as more bloodthirsty than the Septimus of the movie. The book Septimus wasn't just ambitious; he was crafty and willing to do anything to get what he wanted. I distinctly recall one of the dead brothers remarking that, "the man who has tired of looking over his shoulder for Septimus has tired of life." He is described as being the most dangerous person Tristan will ever meet, whereas movie Septimus is slightly more benign, willing to let people live so long as they don't get in his way. He even offers to let Primus live if Primus will just give up the quest for the stone. There are no such compromises offered in the book.

hmm, I may have to reread the book again, when I went off to college, I left it with my brother, and I haven't ask him for it back yet.

Well, the girls that corrected me in earlier posts were 100% right about Septimus being a much more frightening figure in the comic, I simply hadn't read it such a long time that I forgot how his character was like in the original story ( ... )
