I believe it was Michael Douglas that once said that nobody even blinked when a man cuts off a woman's breast, but when a man kisses a woman's breast everybody gets upset about it being shown on screen or TV. He has a point, and it's even worse for gay people. God forbid innocent kids seeing two men kiss. The sky will probably fall down if that happens! *rolls eyes at such stupidity*

Personally I don't see how love (as long as it's mutual) can be bad, in whatever shape or form it comes. So why not just show it! But then again, I'm no producer or director, so I'm afraid my opinion doesn't change a whole lot.

he's so right! I just won't ever be able to get it. Action movies with loody deaths to left and right are sent fairly early on TV - because youth can handle it better than sex? Gimme a freaking break while I laugh myself silly. And violence certainly is more deadly than sex ever has been.

I'm more worried when kids watch the fricken news than if they'd see a gay couple kissing/touching/loving each other. Love is ay easier to explain than violence. How the hell do you explain some of the things they broadcast on the news?

Yep, old age has it's advantages; nostalgia is one of them.

btw, I've been reading an article about the EU. it's way way way long (been working on it the last couple of days - the cold medicine that I've been guzzling hasn't helped any), but very interesting. talks about the formation of the eu, the politics, etc, etc. if you get a chance, check it out. I'd love to hear your opinion on it ( ... )

I'd think that the producers would understand that the money is in the hands of the 55+, there is a wide generational wedge when it comes to wealth. The 18-34 year old males might be easier conned thou. *g*

I laughed when I read the article - no way Europe is going anywhere with its model as long as it's trying to emulate the economics of the USA (which in my mind is built on psychology and nothing else.) There's no way we can keep an eternal growth up, instead we need to figure out a more democratic and just distribution of the wealth. Europe has failed big time on that project and EU will not sustain the inner tensions it creates. A model for others? Hell no! A warning example maybe - to not emulate but think for your friggen selves for once.

We should not go for eternal growth but for economical redistribution and less consumption over all. That is what the third stage will be all about - but I haven't seen it peaking its head up anywhere yet. I guess there has to be another major crisis before it does.

Yes, European TV-production is more relaxed, but also much minor than the US one. The cultural impact of European television does not even exist outside the nations in which the production originated. There's the language (although many French production have been adopted and americanized. Even British ones have - and that I just do not understand to reason for. Other than to culturally tone it down?

Yes, there are more out-spoken and different life-styles presented in European productions - but they do not reach a world-wide audience. I think only the American entertainment industry breaches those borders. Maybe that is why its kept on safe turf?

Bollywood has a larger production than Hollywood does - but is it seen on our screens? No, and I still don't get why not because some of the productions are hilarious.

Oh...ouch. Nostalgia hurts, sometimes. :) That was lovely...made me want to pull out the old tapes and give a watch. Or investigate if they ever came out with Season 2 DVDs.

You know...if you joined the SPN fandom, you could make pretties like this with your boy Sam. Muwahahahaha!

As to your point, this is a classic debate in our house. The Husband (did I mention I married my "same old man"?) is in theater biz, so the violence v. sex debate is a hot one. And its morphing...violence in things like TYR or war or cop shows was "defensible" in terms of context. That's the argument that gets lobbed out there. But now you have things like Saw or other thrillers or shows that go for horrifically violent acts for the sake of violence, not to advance or complement the logic of a plot or scenario ( ... )

I love rant in my journal *g* Am so close to ficcing more than I've already done and vidding Sam - it all depends on if CSI really stays in the tank shark this season or not. Nick and Rick are closest to my heart.

To me sex is certainly more contextual in everyday life than violence ever will be - why the latter has so much entertainment appeal is beyond me. I guess that's why fanfic is so widespread *g*

Gotta find that documentary - even if it'll piss me off big time to watch it. Thanks for the tip!
