The new station commander arrives

Jun 15, 2007 12:05

The space around Starbase 668 was quiet, empty, peaceful even. Traffic to and from the starbase had never been anything anyone could call busy and today was shaping up to be an especially quiet day as space traffic went,  and not to mention the current happenings in the station's command operations center. All was quiet outside the station until a ( Read more... )

Mouse looked up as someone stepped out of the turbolift, and was confused as he thought he'd restricted access. The man approached an Ensign with the forensics team who just happened to be near the turbolift taking a statement from the junior officer who was stationed at Ops currently.

"Ensign, what is the situation?" he asked, and Mouse recognized his face. He quickly moved to Captain Gallaway's side before the Ensign could reply.

"Sir, if I may? I'm Yeoman Dean, and I think it would be easier to bring you up to speed if we stepped into the ready room and let the forensics team finish up their work. Your predecessor was just murdered. I thought you weren't scheduled to arrive for another week, sir." Mouse stepped back and indicated the door to the ready room tucked away in the front corner of operations.

Mason frowned at the Yeoman's words. His predecessor, murdered. "I know I'm early" he replied. "I was looking forward to taking some time to get aquainted with the station and its crew before I was to take command. Looks like I wont be getting that time" he said and unshouldered his bag, dropping it next to the desk that dominated the ready room. His desk now. "Are there any leads as to who may have killed the Commander yet?"

"If you'd like a little time to adjust to the station before taking command, I can manage things, sir. I was already practically running the place anyways." Mouse stood at attention as the Captain looked around his new ready room. "It'll be a little easier with Commander Jefferies gone, he was usually asking questions at the wrong time, and ignoring me when I needed him to help with something important. Honestly, I don't know anyone on the station who'll miss him, and that's going to make the job of tracking down his murderer that much harder, as more than half the station would have motive to see him gone. Whoever did it covered their trail well, forensics hasn't uncovered much to go on, they're planning on combing the station logs next."

Mason nodded. "No, I will take over command now. No need to put more undue pressure on you or any of the staff than is needed" he said and tapped the desktop terminal that rest on the right hand side of the desk.

"Computer, note in the station logs that I, Captain Mason Gallaway am hereby assuming command of this station as of" he checked the time on his wrist watch. "1845 hours"

"Transfer of command noted" replied the computer and Mason glanced back at the Yoeman.

"Right I am assuming the murder occured very recently. So lets see if we can make sure whoever the killer is can not leave the station" he said and tapped his comm badge. "This is Captain Mason Gallaway to Station space traffic control. Stop all outbound traffic from the station on the double. I repeat, stop all outbound traffic from this station on the double"
