I'm really curious to see what's going to happen with Malfoy in the next book. Is he going to turn around and be a good guy? I think Harry has more important nemesises (nemisi?) than little punk Draco. It'll be interesting none the least. I still have a feeling, that somehow, Snape is still a goodguy. I don't know how, at this point, but I'm sure Rowling will explain it. I don't think Dumbledore was wrong to trust him, because I don't think he's that bad of a character judge. There's got to be some reason he trusted him so much. Kelly wrote in my lj, that she thinks Dumbledore was pleading for Snape to kill him, probably to save Malfoy from going down that path and saving him from being a murderer. That makes sense to me, because I think Dumbledore is way to dignified and proud to have been pleading for his life.
Hmm... there is logic to that. And, in fairness, after making that promise to Narcissa, Snape could either follow through or die himself, and whether he's good or evil, that's not a particularly useful option.
I figured he'd take death. That's what I thought. I figured he'd break the vow, prove his goodness, and die himself but i was way off. I think Rowling tries to use suprise tatics and add mystery to her books, so I don't think that she would be as obvious as to make Snape so hated and have everyone be right about him. Then again, he killed Dumbledore in combination with being somewhat responsible for Harry's parents deaths, so he may just be a big rat bastard after all. Right now, he seems more of the enemy than even Voldemort.
 The betrayal is more personal in this case, less removed. Snape is someone that, regardless of whether the kids ever liked him, has been part of their lives for years and was privvy to a lot of stuff that's way personal even beyond past betrayals. These kids are gonna need sooooo much therapy....
It was odd because I didn't cry at all. I just figured Dumbledore would die. I think because I'm older too, I don't see dying as such a bad thing, we get tired, ya know? I figured Snape would be bad and hated him all along, but I think in the last book she'll have him end up as being good all along somehow, just so she can say she fooled us. The thing that really upset me was Harry breaking up with Ginny, and if they don't end up together I'm gonna be pissed. I'd like to see some passion going on with Ron and Hermione too. Enough hugging already. It'll be weird not to have the last book set in Hogwarts. And poor Hagrid! He's my fave. It was a good, easy read and that's why I like the series. They take you away from reality in a light sort of way.
I think it was time for him, and I like Gwen's point that I think Dumbledore would've rather it been Snape than let any chance at normalcy for Draco be ruined... The loss still hurts, though. And, like I said, I think it had as much to do with still missing Richard Harris as anything.
Harry and Ginny'll be making out at the end of the next book, I have no fear whatsoever. I think that 7'll still center around Hogwart's at least in part; the grand confrontation's bound to take place there. And Hagrid! I blame him for some of the crying too. Hagrid crying is like Sam in Lord of the Rings crying. I can't help but cry too, dangit!
Oh, and Hermione and Ron will get married and have tons of babies together. We all know they will. heh
It was great to read your thoughts on HBP! I agree with a lot of your points. I found it to be the slowest moving of the books (up until the creepy cave chapter). I could've done with a lot less teen angst and more magical action. I kinda guessed about Voldy separating his soul into different objects a while back -- the Horcruxes are an interesting concept, but I've seen it before during the Key to Time series in Doctor Who.
One thing which irked me was Ron and Hermione not believing Harry when he told them Draco was up to something. How long have the three of them been best friends? And how many times HAS Draco been up to no good? I think I'd be listening to Harry.
With "The Cave" sequences, all I could keep thinking of was "The Ring" and the Dead Marshes from "The Two Towers". When HBP is eventually made into a movie, I think that part'll scare the kiddos witless.
I'm also disappointed in the path Snape's character took. However, I'm convinced things aren't all they seem...
In Ron and Hermione's defense, Harry DOES have a record of going half-cocked after people the minute he thinks something is up. The fact that he's been right most of the time, doesn't negate that there are some times that he has barked up the wrong tree.
It is true that he does kinda just run off and do his thing without researching it first... but he is usually right, and considering the consequences of ignoring the problem with the stakes so high, sometimes it's better to err on the side of paranoia ;)
