I like to think those people who left have found a way back home. They must be there now fighting back against the darkness or better, maybe the darkness was defeated and they are living there peacefully now in beautiful worlds where darkness is no longer a constant threat.

People come and go rather suddenly, don't they? But if worlds can be restored as they were, I would imagine people could be as well. They may still be fighting, wherever they are.
