Tell me, what does it mean to be friends? Are there some sort of tests of loyalty involved? To what extent would you trust one another? Is it ever enough? Do you find yourselves doubting the other, your friend, when things become harder than what you're comfortable with ( Read more... )

People become friends when they bond for common goals or interests, and they remain loyal to one another. There will be times when friendships are tested with life's challenges, but to overcome these challenges will strengthen the friendship and the trust between them.

What is far sadder is being alone, without family or friends. One cannot overcome certain burdens alone.

Friends are just one means to an end? Is that what you mean?

What's so sad about being alone? If they're alone, they weren't worth anything to begin with.

That's not what I meant. Friendships aren't meant to end at all. Friends will help each other overcome life's challenges.

I was referring to oneself mainly. So if you are alone, would you believe that you aren't worth anything?

But if it's common goals that bring friends together, the reasons are purely self-centered.

I would. And if I or anyone else couldn't overcome those burdens, that's their own fault.

Not at all, when the benefits are shared between them.

Perhaps, but there's no shame in turning to others for help.

Wouldn't that make it more of a mutually beneficial deal with a title attached to it?

I'm sure telling yourself that makes you feel better.

No, it's simply a friendship. It may be impossible to fully describe.

And no, I say it because it's the truth. What about you? Do you not have friends?

If you can't describe it, that makes it fake. Not that I ever believed otherwise.

Why would I have friends?

Not at all. Friends bond with each other. Very much like a family, despite the lack of blood relation. Do you have any family?

Is there a reason why you don't have friends?

I have the best family anyone could ever hope for! I have hundreds of siblings, and Mother. I haven't found Her yet...but I will! And then everything will be better for us.

I don't need them. Why would I?

Hmm. If you have that large of a family, I suppose friends wouldn't be necessary...

Most of them are probably dead by now. They wouldn't be strong enough to live through the Darkness.

[And he catches that cheerfulness.]

...Then why do you sound so...cheerful?

Because death is amusing!

...Even if it's your own family? Or... [does he not care about his family? He doesn't dare ask that part, though.]

What makes it so "amusing?"

Of course! If someone isn't good enough, it's best that they die... [His voice trembles slightly, but he laughs all the same.]

What makes it so sad? Or whatever it is you people claim to fel.
