comments: It's been awhile since I've written. Short.
He wakes up with the tears still wet on his cheeks. He doesn’t remember why he’s lying in bed with eyes wide open and his chest rising and falling quickly for air. He’s not sure why his hand is shaking, either. He mumbles quietly into the darkness, words incoherent even to himself and quickly swallowed by the thick silence of the night.
It takes him a moment to orientate himself again, to realise the fact that yes, he is awake, and yes, whatever had happened had just been a dream. He doesn’t remember what it was, but he knows it wasn’t good, and he’s actually thankful he can’t remember, really. It’s probably best that way.
He’s still breathing heavy, sucking the breath quickly into his lungs. He can feel the perspiration on his forehead, the tears on his cheeks. God, it was stupid; a dream, just a dream.
Then, to his surprise, a hand touches his; strong fingers lace themselves firmly through his own. Squeeze. More fingers, this time brushing the damp from his cheeks, pushing the hair from his forehead. He turns, and just manages to make out the figure in the darkness.
“Shiwon,” he whispers, almost too quiet to be heard.
Shiwon hears it though, and shifts himself closer, hands still clasped tightly together. A finger slowly traces the curve of his lips; he shivers.
“I didn’t expect you to stay…” and it’s true, he hadn’t. He’d thought Shiwon would have his fun, get what he wanted, and then in the morning he’d find himself waking up to an empty bed.
He can’t see the smile on Shiwon’s face, but he can hear it in his voice when he speaks. “I’m here,” he whispers. He shifts closer still, and now he can feel the bare skin of their bodies brush together. Another shiver. His arm slides down, slips around his waist, and pulls him close. Fingers squeeze softly around his own. Lips brush softly, so softly, against his.
“It’s okay now,” Shiwon tells him. “Go back to sleep.”
He slips his own arm around him, holds him just as close, savouring in the sensation of having him there. “’Kay,” he answers softly, settles against Shiwon and relaxes. Just feeling the firm presence of him, hearing the steady sound of his breathing, feeling the warmth of his skin against his own, soothes and relaxes him, makes him forget about the dream he can’t even remember, and sends him back off into the warm embrace of sleep.
He wakes up the next morning alone, bed empty and fingers numb. Donghae sighs to himself and learns that some dreams really are too good to be true.
