I had very particular requirements. I was in and out of all kinds of locations and I needed my archived mail to be easily accessible from the cloud. POP3 would have required too much manual clicking every time I used it on a strange computer to configure, download, read, erase, then finally un-configure whatever strange client happened to be installed on the machine at hand.
