That is an interesting problem. I troll occasionally (perhaps more than occasionally) and I don't often think about the consequences or reasons why. There is a kind of thrill to it, even when I know it alienates people and gives them the wrong impression of my true opinions/feelings.

It's even more insidious when the troll in question has taken up residence in a community, and interacts half-normally, part of the time, but then resorts to maddening flame-baiting the majority of the time.
