What is he holding in his right hand? It looks less like a light sabre and more like a rolling pin (which, lets face it, would do the job)!

It's a 'telescoping lightsaber'. I think the skinny tip is to make it easier to pull the lightsaber out of Vader's arm recess (the early SW figures had a hollow arm and the lightsaber was retractable).
