Looking for a beta

Mar 05, 2013 22:28

I realized time has gotten away from me and I really need to start thinking seriously about that unconventionalcourtship fic that is due on... 11st of April. (My home exam is due on 22th of this month. As is my best friend's birthday. At least she'll understand if her gift is late. Also I'm sick. Dammit body.)Anyone feel up to possibly beta reading ( Read more... )

beta?, fic stuff

i don't think i can offer to beta at the moment, though i might do if work lets up or whatever in april if you're still looking for someone :)

but i just thought i'd say: i'm a very forgiving mod! and also - i ain't done my own fic which is supposed to be posted in 10 days. whoops.

Oh my. Good luck! o3o;

I'll try to ask around before then, so we'll see. :'D At least I'll have a couple of weeks after the exam with hopefully not too many other things... and I've now gotten as far as changing the names and pronouns on my prompt and giggled at it. V. important stage.

Also started watching videos on Wales to work out if there are any suitably remote places to plop an evil science lair and if so where is best.

Sorry, didn't mean to. :'3

You'll know best, anyway. As long as it doesn't become unexpectedly longer while you're writing, as happened to me once when I only had maybe three days to write... but then I tend not to really plan my plots so.

My Welsh-descended flatmate say Brecon Beatons perhaps?

I'll put it on the list of places to research! :)

As to Wales, while some parts of the Brecon Beacons would definitely do, I'd say the Black Mountains would be even more inaccessible. (Or at least, that was always my impression driving through Wales to get to uni - the Beacons are in some parts much nearer to the more populated S Wales areas).

Good luck with the writing, anyway. :-)

I've also come across some info on an area called Cambrian Mountains or even the Desert of Wales, which seems to be less popular as a tourist attraction, as... that might not be optimal? Also it sounds rather desolate which could work for the story. :)

The Cambrian Mountains were apparently what I meant. I was told they were the Black Mountains, but this is untrue. My geography is worse than I realised. Anyway, the sort of mountainous deserted no man's land that encircles Aberystwyth basically, beyond the Brecon Beacons. (The Black Mountains are actually nearly in England; you don't want them at all). Heh.

There actually is (or was) an alternative energy research station some miles out of Aber even. Probably wasn't established that early, but it's a good location for stuff. :-)

Well, according to wiki on Cambrian Mountains "The wider, more historic, use of the term also includes Snowdonia in North Wales, and the Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains in South Wales. They range in height up to 3,560 feet (1,090 m) in Snowdonia." So eh, not totally incorrect, I guess?

Oho~ Well, I'm already stretching the timeline a little (maybe? UNIT era's situation in time seems wobbly enough to me in canon that I'm not feeling a need to worry about it overmuch. :9)

And while it doesn't need to be that specific station, alternative energy might actually work pretty well as a cover for what I have in mind. :D
