angel

It's easy to say Angel was Buffy's first love... which he was - not her first boyfriend, but her first love, her first doe-eyed, chest-squeezey, doodling Mrs. [boyfriend] in her notebook, imagining a happy future together love. But saying 'first love' carries a lot of puppy-connotations, whereas in this case... it's harder to quantify what, exactly, that means.

Because she didn't just love him in a teenage girl way, she loved him in a forever way. In a "I'll literally bleed for you" way. A "losing you made me leave home and live as a waitress in New York to deal with my soulcrushing depression" way. And while one would think (and she frequently tells herself) that time heals all wounds, in reality she shut down like a fortress the second he left her - even years later, she's never managed to love anyone else... and she's openly admitted to having loved him "more than (she) will ever love anything in this life."

This might be a cosmic thing - their relationship has prophecies, it has destiny, it has demons who get all cryptic about how they're strong together and nothing when separated. And their connection is undeniable - they share each other's dreams, sometimes, and she has said that when he's near, she feels his presence on some level even if she doesn't see him. Buffy herself tries to say it's more of a "busy slaying, and in need of some serious baking" thing. Even so, she admits that when she thinks about what happens once her baking is complete (and she tries not to, but sometimes she does), it's still him she wants, uh, enjoying her cookie goodness.

...all of which makes it all the more annoying, being trapped here with him, since she's still pretty sure being Together is a Bad Idea. (Or maybe that's just bitterness about all the on moving that he has done.) And by "annoying" I mean "tempting."

Even though, after all this time, she's still having a hard time with the whole trust thing, when it comes to him. Maybe because of that whole 'turns into a sadistic freak and tortures people' issue. Maybe also because there's so much time and change between them, now.

So, in short: the love of her life. Her partner in Big Destiny; her 'meant to be,' and the other Primary Champion Thing of their world and time.

cordelia chase

Talk about your blasts from the past. Buffy went to school with Cordy for three years in Sunnydale - she was the queen bitch of the school, and then she was their reluctant ally, and then she was the girlfriend of Buffy's best friend, and then she was one of Buffy's best friends, too. And then she wasn't. And then she was in L.A.! Complications on complications. It only gets more awkward when you take into consideration the fact that Cordy's supposed to be dead... and that she and Angel had a something or whatever in L.A. - one that never turned into a definite thing but wasn't a non-thing.

Buffy considers Cordelia to have grown up a good deal more in the past few years than Buffy has, herself - if nothing else, her presentation has certainly matured. In any case, she's glad to see Cordy here instead of dead, and is trying to be less awkward than she currently feels. Which is hard. But hey.

canon: Buffy/Angelverse

dawn summers

She's not literally Buffy's sister, but she may as well be. Think green energy in the form of a girl. Think made from Buffy's blood - and probably genetically identical though magic formed them into different shapes. Dawn is the sister Buffy never had, and now does have, and remembers having even though she knows she doesn't have one. In any case, it's fair to say Dawn is in the running for Buffy's very favorite person in the entire world... even if she is a bit bratty and irritating sometimes. And whenever she gets upset, Buffy basically wants to punch everyone who ever hurt her. And, you know, sometimes she does it.

arthur pendragon

Wow, talk about having a massive stick shoved up his-- well, anyway he doesn't seem that bad. Overall he's fairly pleasant and snarky and kind of fun to mess with. And mess with him she does, whenever she gets the chance.

canon: Merlin

caroline forbes

This girl really gives Buffy a weird, suspicious feeling... and yet she's totally likable and cool. Weird. Maybe the suspicious feeling comes from feeling like the girl feels suspicious about her? In any case, definitely worth looking into and keeping tabs on her.

canon: the vampire diaries

quicksword irene

It's not that she knows this woman very well. But once, a while back, when some big demony godlike things were throwing insane power around, she went to save one of those pale-haired women from a tentacle monster, and this one got cut in half. Buffy was there at the time. It sticks with you.

canon: claymore

isley

What do you even say about some kind of city block sized centaur that apparently eats people and picks fights and messes with her when she's making really awkward comments about uh, nuts? He's extremely attractive... which is kind of annoying because she doesn't need to find any more demony things attractive. So okay, she's wary of him, but finds him interesting, and he makes her think more serious thoughts, and talk about destiny and stuff, and oh my god, isn't he a cannibal?

At least he has a sense of humor. At least... she thinks that's what it is. ¬_¬

canon: claymore

nymphadora tonks

A witch who has the misfortune of being the niece of a sociopathic witch. Buffy ended up discussing some of Tonks' PTSD issues with her, kind of on the fly, and offered more serious sessions if Tonks cared to take her up on it. Whether this will happen remains to be seen, but Buffy keeps an eye on her and can fairly be described as "quite concerned."

canon: harry potter

rigaldo

No one this good looking should be such a wet blanket. No, really. He has no sense of humor, which doesn't surprise her considering he's some kind of demonic lion or something. Also, is he a manservant? She's not sure. In any case, she's pretty sure Dawn has a crush on him, which... God no.

canon: claymore

riza hawkeye

She actually doesn't know Riza very well, but Riza is the commander of the Search and Rescue division of the Alliance... of which Buffy is a part. She seems solid, dependable, well-respected... all pretty promising, really.

canon: full metal alchemist

sebastian michaelis

This guy is all kinds of Victorian. And a butler. He seems to have trouble dealing with her modern girlsy buffyspeak, which in fairness a lot of people do. And he doesn't know the word "retro." What's that about?

canon: black butler/kuroshitsuji

verity kindle

Verity's a chipper, very British and proper chick who doesn't seem to know anything about supernatural stuff and asks a lot of questions. Buffy doesn't mind this. In fact, it's kind of charming; she thinks Verity would have made an awesome Watcher if the Watcher's Council didn't consist of 1. assholes and 2. dead people.
