Does anyone know why my car is getting better gas mileage now, with a combo of city and freeway driving, with the heat and the defroster on, than it was when I drove it across the country in May, all on the freeway, using no heat ( Read more... )

Turning on your heater helps disperse the heat from your engine, and a cooler running engine will get better horsepower and fuel economy. Since the weather is cooler, your engine runs cooler, and the air you are injecting into your engine is denser, giving you better mileage. It's like installing an intercooler, only free :)
