Fate really was a funny bitch sometimes. Rodney and Laura had been thrown together time upon time to the point that being around each other was almost second nature. After Christmas, though, their schedules usually kept them apart, so they were forced to find what moments they could. Laura had even taken to crashing in his quarters every few nights, just so they'd see each other occasionally, even if it was just to murmur a grumpy "morning" or "night" to each other.
So when Rodney came into his quarters, he was relieved to see Laura's slender body curled up on his bed. He desperately wanted to join her, wrap his arms around her until they both fell fast asleep. But Rodney did have other responsibilities. With not a little regret and some tenderness, Rodney tucked the bed sheets more securely around Laura's sleeping form. He couldn't resist pushing a stray blonde curl away from her face, her skin tantalizing to his touch. Laura was such a frustrating beautiful woman, a free spirit to his chaotic control. She looked so peaceful. He almost hated to leave.
Opening her eyes slowly, Laura asked. "Rodney? Is that you?"
"Who else would it be?" Rodney asked. With more concern, he added. "I didn't mean to wake you."
"You didn't," Laura said. "Shouldn't you be in the lab?"
"I have to head back soon," Rodney admitted, "but I didn't want to miss our little evenings together."
Laura rolled her eyes, "I never figured you for the tucking in type."
"And you're a little old for bedtime stories, Goldilocks," Rodney snapped. With a tired sigh, he gave her a quick kiss. "Night, Laura."
"Night Rodney."
