I am sitting in my room, totally bored. The others have stopped replying to my journal entries and I am just about to pick the lock on Petunia's diary, when Mummy knocks on my door. Which was just as well, I'm quite sure that I would have had to scratch my eyes out reading the rubbish that I can imagine she would write in there
( ... )
Mrs. Evans seemed very pleased to see me when I arrived at her door, as if I were doing her some kind of favour, though I'm not sure what it could be. I asked her how she was doing and that my mother sent her greetings as well as permission to punish me if I acted out of line. I then promised her I would do no such things, no pranks tonight whatsoever, this night was for Lily. She showed me to the den and went to fetch Lily. I'm waiting ever so nervously, switching my weight from foot to foot
( ... )
"You have?" I breathe, amazed. Whowever said that James Potter was thoughtless? I can hardly believe it, he's here right in my house!! He looks gorgeous too and things start dancing in my stomach. I can't help it, I throw my arms around his neck and kiss him soundly, aware that Mummy was no long in view. I've seen how he's looking at me though and I blush as I kiss him. I'm not dressed to go anywhere, but I don't want to waste time by changing unless I have to. "Where are we going?" I ask him, grinning.
I smile and nod, "I certainly have." Suddenly her arms around my neck and she's kissing me...mmmmm...I squeeze her tight before letting her go. I can smell a wiff of something wonderful, probably her shampoo, and that makes me want to hug her again. I refrain when she asks me where we're going. "Now, that would be spoiling it, wouldn't it?" I raise my eyebrow and shake my head. "You'll see when we get there, and if you don't like it, we can always go somewhere else." I look at her outfit once again, loving the way her jeans fit her just so. Suddenly my voice feels shaky, but I force as much calm into it as I can. "You can go in that beautiful outfit, or change into another, it's your choice. Either way, I would be delighted to accompany you."
I didn't know she cared about my opinion, and apparently she does a lot. Well, none of my opinions about her are negative in anyway. Wait, I lied, just one: my opinion about her not being with me for the rest of our lives. I smile at her, my eyes crinkling.
The waiter comes to my beckoning hand and I quickly say, "Un jus de citrouille pour la dame charmante et j'aurai un verre d'eau s'il vous plait" as to keep the time not spent with Lily alone short. The waiter inclines his head and asks, "Avez-vous besoin de moi aidez-vous avec les cartes?" then says in broken English, "Need you me to help with menues?" I shake my head though I'm not sure Lily will be able to understand it all; perfect. He leaves, giving us time to choose our meals.
As I look at her across from me I briefly wonder if I'll be able to convince her to dance with me. I would love to see those hips sway out on the dance floor.
I'm looking at the menu and it's all in French. I've not had the experience of being in a restaurant with the menu in a different language. Eventually, I have to give in and I place my menu to the side and laugh. "James, I can't understand a word that says, you'll have to order for me." I wonder if this is what he wanted in the first place? He knows I love it when he speaks French.
I glance at the dance floor and wistfully hope that he likes to dance. Any excuse to be in his arms is good.
Once again, James Potter was right, she can't read it. I am debating whether to show her or to order for her anyway. "It's quite easy for some of the courses; would you like me to show you?" That solves it for now.
"Lily? After we order, would you like to dance with me? We'll have time before they deliver our food, and I was just wondering, well I thought maybe you like to dance, and even if you didn't, I would feel foolish for not asking, but if you do, I would love to dance, though I may not be all that good..." Oh ye Gods I'm rambling! When has James Potter ever rambled like that? Never, never I tell you. What is wrong with me? I rest my forehead in my palm and inhale deeply.
I shake my head, it would take some of the mystique from the night if he were to show me some of the mechanics of ordering. "No, I trust you to order me something I'll like." You can be the man tonight James, I add silently, I like you being in charge like this, being taken care of.
It's like he can read my mind, and hes so sweet when he's rambling. My eyes light up and I'm smiling at him. "Of course I would love to dance. Especially with you." Now, I'm the one blushing.
