Lori Drew has been indictedFor anyone here who doesn't know, Lori Drew is the sick, twisted excuse for a human being who drove a thirteen-year-old girl to suicide by posing as a teenaged boy of MySpace, befriending the girl, spreading her secrets, then cruelly making fun of her ( Read more... )

Amen!

And while we're at it. Let's stop sheltering kids, deluding them into thinking they're safe or special or worse, entitled to special treatment.

Kids are coming out of high school with a total lack of ambition. College entry rates are dropping and welfare is skyrocketing in the younger demographic. 20 years from now we're going to have a huge problem as there's no one stepping up to fill important jobs that require any drive. In fact, in the banking sector, I'm hearing that employers are not as willing to hire people under 35, because they're more difficult to supervise and tend to quit without notice and with more frequency.

I worry that we're closer to anarchy than we think. I'm ascareded.

Doesn't surprise me. Parents, acting out of guilt, are creating an entire generation of overprivileged, lazy, self-important shitweeds. I want to smack them all.

YES!! I absolutely hate that, this business of constantly patting kids on the back and rewarding them no matter what. rewards without actual acheivements are empty and false. Actually accomplishing things improves "self-esteem" a million times more than all this false garbage. And what is up with kids' sports where no score is kept so nobody wins? Fuck that! Grr.

Rah, rah! I'm all for adult fun! {of course, I don't have kids...does that have anything to do with it?}

Sigh, I know. They're so afraid of their kids not liking them that they forget they're not supposed to. They're supposed to be parents and raise productive, responsible citizens. Whatever happened to "There's plenty of time for that when you're older"?

Oh, 11 is quite late, I agree. But by the time I was fifteen/sixteen I think that's about when I went to bed.

Our girls go to bed at 8 during the week, 9 on weekends. And they will for at least another three years or so. When Princess is nine we might consider letting her stay up until 8:30. :-)
