I like to see relationships grow to that point, if there's time for it. In a series you have time for characters to get to know each other, fall in love/lust, etc. In single-title romances, you expect there to be sex, but in a series, I don't think it's necessary for it to happen in the first book.
No, me either, necessarily, but for me it's a voice issue. If we're going to be sexy and angsty later, I feel we should at least start with heavy hints we're going that way, so people don't feel betrayed.
It depends on how sexy it gets later... if you have no sex in the first book but then late it's total erotic sex fest, yes, i'd be annoyed. But if you have no sex and then tasteful meaningful sex, you're good with me! Will this be a romance? Or like an urban fantasy? That will make a difference too...
It's definitely urban fantasy, oh yes indeed. But this is all counting my chickens before they're hatched, too, as I have no idea if anybody will even like the thing. :-)
A good book doesn't have to have sex in it to be good so honestly, if it feels wrong to write one in the first book and more will come then don't write it in. I don't get irritated, I think that if it fits with how the story goes, I'm all for it.
It's more just that it's very odd not to be planning a sex scene. This will be my first ever book without one (if one doesn't happen, which it still might.)
I know, sigh. Still wish I'd gotten my dirty fix from SM. *glower* As I said above, if you're checking this on lj and not your email, it's more that it feels wierd not to be planning a sex scene at this stage, and also, kind of a voice thing. But as the entire book could turn out to be shit, I'm getting ahead of myself here too. :-) Hey, it was a slow blog day.

I don't mind but........dracschickNovember 6 2007, 00:47:25 UTC
readers sometimes tend to expect books to be similar. For example, if there's no sex in book one, most readers may expect there to be no sex in subesequent books. Also, those that don't read sexy stuff might buy book #2 and not be as pleased. Also vice versa.
