Cookbooks. And a recipe. And a few other things.

Yes, it's a recipe! I know, I haven't posted one of these in quite a while; I'm actually considering putting a page on my new website for them all, or would that be lame? What do you think?

Anyway. Most of the recipes I've posted have been my own inventions. This one isn't. It's taken from Nigella Lawson's "How to Eat", which is one of my absolute ( Read more... )

cooking, recipes, gooy things, of interest to me, buy the book!, i don't like salad, craziness, be nice to me i'm old, america rocks, what do you think, beginnings, grumpyass, back in my day, another reason old books rock, rantypants, the dull details of my dull life

?? That's so weird. I get a flash of Michael Kabongo but then it's mine. I don't understand why it wouldn't go directly to my page.

Bloody hell! I'm glad you're okay.

BBC1 has live coverage of the Inauguration scheduled from 4pm tomorrow.

Lots to respond to here. First, I have nearly 1,000 cookbooks. Among my favorite cookbooks are a couple I used during college: Sumptuous Indulgence on a Shoestring by David Yeadon (1975) and You Can Do Anything With Crepes by Virginia Pasley and Jane Green (1970). Their Crepes Florentine recipe is incredibly delicious. Though I don't use their crepe batter recipe. The best crepe batter recipe I've ever found is Albert Stockli's. He was a friend of my family, was a great chef, and wrote a fantastic cookbook - Splendid Fare.

I always watch the Inauguration as well and cry. I've been very fortunate to have attended a couple when I lived in Washington, D.C. It's incredibly moving.

I'm glad that you are ok. What a scare!!

I just sent a friends request to you via facebook...
and the recipe looks divine!! I feel the same way about recipe books...they NEED to have something that picky kids will eat!
I actually found some one-dish supper recipes that the kids have liked.

I typically go for freebies when it comes to cookbooks. (In fact one of my nonwriting projects is putting all my recipes on cards. I tried a notebook, but it got stuff stuck on it and the pages started tearing. And there just wasn't enough space, yanno?) Any way, I subscribe to Hillbilly Housewife with is an every other week recipe and frugal living newsletter with moms/families in mind.

I also subscribe to the Kraftfoods.com newsletter and I really recommend it. They send me weekly recipe mail (with pictures, and sometimes even videos) and a quarterly magazine (though in the UK you probably couldn't get it) and they have an 800 number you can call where you tell them what you have in your cabinets and they give you something to make for dinner. And it's all freeeee! I highly recommend it.
