A shift in philosophy

It is amazing to me how things change in your life. How you can be so used to how things are and then something comes and changes how you view things.

Like gaming.

For almost two decades I have played the same type of games. The old school games. Games such as:Call of Cthulhu, Cyberpunk, D&D, Vampire, and games mostly by the biggest game companies ( Read more... )

dungeons and dragons, vampire, misspent youth, perdition rpg, indie games, call of cthuhlu, don't rest your head, evil hat, spirit of the century

It's interesting. I used to laugh at those "indie" games, not knowing anything about them. Being content with the games that I played. Now I don't even want to play those games anymore and I want to explore the Indie gaming scene.

I agree with everything you've written. While i still love WW, I've been leaning away from them and heading in a different direction. I am not the same person or gamer i was a decade ago. Seeing (and working with) other smaller companies really did give me the confidence that i could do it myself. One of my biggest goals in all of this is get to a point where i can give other writers the break into the industry that i got or even just to help them with their personal styles. A good bump is never a bad thing and i believe in paying it forward.

That is what I like to hear. :) It is nice to see in the gaming industry so many people willing to "pay it forward". Even if it means something as simple as being approachable and willing to answer questions about their game. I see more of that with the smaller publishers than the larger, and that another reason for me liking the Indie games so much.
