Thanks for answering my question! It's always interesting to hear about projects selling on partial. Also, what's funny about this is I was just thinking about you earlier today (before the post went up) about how you never got around to writing that post on partials (and wondering if I'd missed it). Then BOOM, you post it today. It's like you somehow knew!
I do have a quick question- was Juliet Immortal/Romeo Redeemed sold on partial and if so, how did you shop it around? Because I feel like it would be easier for Penguin to buy on partial from you since they had bought three previous books from you so they know personally you can do it. Was it hard getting other publishers interested just from a partial?
Hey! So glad I came through. And sorry again that I was late. The poor blog is always the first thing to go when I get slammed.
And yes, JULIET IMMORTAL/ROMEO REDEEMED was sold on partial. My agent at the time shopped three chapters and a synopsis. The synopsis was 5 pages on JULIET with a 2 line mention of the sequel. (I was actually surprised when my editor wanted both!) And I think the partial wasn't a problem in that situation because I had finished a book for SOMEONE, you know? Even if it wasn't Delacorte.
