Good idea on the chatting, but starring in bad horror films does not in any way prepare you for public speaking. In that case, someone else wrote the words, you know the person you're talking to is going to talk back, and you're not even you! Totally different. Much more like playing pretend and less like walking into class in your underwear.
So play pretend! :-) Get into your Stacey Jay, YA Writer Extraordinaire character, and go out there as HER. She has all your best qualities, but without the insecurities and nervousness about public speaking.

As for speaking advice...I'm not the one who was in a certain *excellent* film, ahem, so I don't think I would be able to give you any. Heh heh.
