Thank you so much for the kind feedback! I was petrified about doing podfic because, erm... well, as you can tell, my normal speaking voice has a weird mid-Atlantic unplaceable accent and I sometimes get made fun of by people who assume I am putting on airs or whatever when really, it's just that my folks moved to the states in 1969 and my accent is just plain WEIRD. So I am, well.. SUPER sensitive about it, but at thesame time, when I saw the challenge I knew I had at least two TOS stories which I could podfic which would totally work for the challenge. I actually did podfic the other one (No Small Dreams) but that one is just a straight reading--no SFX involved. And also, it's SOULCRUSHINGLY DEPRESSING, and at least this story has a tiny tiny spark of hope still left in it ( ... )

Well, there is the above link--and I think somewhere I podfic'd a Gosford Park story but I can't remember where it's linked...

But thank you SO MUCH for the notes about the audio editing. I kept drafting and redrafting those sections, to try and make sure they were balanced.

And, yeah... I had that moment when I realised that the story itself is totes PG-13... right up until you actually add the audio of people having sex where suddenly it's like ZOMG YOU GUYS. SO NSFW. HEADPHONES HEADPHONES HEADPHONES!

Thank You. This was my introduction to "podfics".
You have a lovely voice and it was interesting and different to "hear" a story as opposed to reading it. For myself, I think I prefer to read than listen. I can concentrate better and can easily go back to reread something. I often reread passages several times.

I hope you'll continue to provide a text version to all your wonderful Pike and One stories. I still keep reading and rereading Skinned Knees and Second Chances and Paradigm Shift!!! I LOVE those two. Can't tell you how many times I've read both.

Well, as you can see, this was specifically for 'Ship Olympics. But I'll think about it! I miss doing VO at work now that I work from home, and it would be nice to keep up my VO and editing skills at home with podfic.

Your accent is awesome! I read a comment where you said you were sensitive about it, so I figured I should say that first XD
I love the sound effects that you used and the voice distortions! Very creatively dine and it's given me ideas for if I ever want to record my own podfic :D
*g* I'll make you a deal -- if you show me how you did the voice distortions, I'll show you how I did the sounds and music! And together we will fight crime!
Great job, bb!

*snugs you zomg*

I always have to field the "Where are you from?" question every time I meet someone, and I've been a bit *flail*-y about it lately so I am so glad that in this case, I don't have to be embarassed.

I basically used the built-in filters in Soundforge 9. I also did a LOT of equalising, to try and make sure the pick-ups (there were a lot of retakes of certain bits) didn't stand out too badly. I have also since purchased what I hope to be a MUCH better Skype headset, so in future, less to try and equalise using software... One can only dream.

Also, for the one line, I literally listened to the VO from "The Cage" over and over again, and tried to get the cadences right, before I recorded my own reading of it. it was wacky, because it was like ADR without any visuals!

:D

I did the voice accent meme back in January and while I sound 'cultured' (when I'm not butchering the poor, unsuspecting Scottish accent) I am, apparently, a stereotypical Canadian! *g* A couple of people on my flist are linguists and they introduced me to the phenomenon of Canadian Raising and extra vowels in certain dialects. The discussion was fascinating! (I also did the meme in French later on, and I seem to speak with a hybrid French, Quebecois, and English accent. IDK. XD)

ANYWAY - technical stuff *googles Soundforge* Oh. Wow. That looks way cooler than Audacity, which is what I used. It's much more visual and colourful anyway :D I didn't really get a chance to play around too much with the built in filters (although now that there won't be a horrible deadline looming over my head, I just might have to!) but I did find the fade in and fade out, which I used for the score. I played with multiple sound layers (6 project files in total, 200+ layers)and fidgeted and tweaked their placement until I ran out of time XD The neat ( ... )
