I recently saw a video of Bill Shatner and Chris Pine together and was most struck by the big difference in their heights. This should not cause a problem in real life because I seriously doubt we'll ever see Shatner in any of the new series of films (nor will we likely see Nimoy again.) I figured one or the other of them just got their eye colour changed. Even today it's possible to change brown eyes to blue with cosmetic surgery; it's risky right now, but centuries from now presumably the technique will be perfected.

Eek! That story kinda skeeved me out. What an idiot woman! She goes to Panama to get fake looking pieces of blue plastic surgically implanted in her eyeballs: a procedure not even close to accepted mainstream medicine or legal in developed countries. That's just insane! Who does that?!

There was this one awesome fic in which nu!Uhura was the one on Tarsus IV. And I think the eye damage of Kirk Prime is now canonized for me, great idea!

I read that one too! It's part of what inspired me to start this meta discussion in fact. I agree it was an awesome story. I also love the idea that Tarsus IV happened to someone else; not to jim.

Modern day premmies can get into eye trouble, so I thought wrt the eye colour, maybe reboot's never developed the pigment because of his premature birth and a side effect of his support treatment as a premmie.

I tend to agree with reboot Kirk not having been on Tarsus 4.

There was one fic (a five things one?) where nu!Kirk was still allergic to that solution/remedy that fixes eyesight, so he wears colored contacts most of the time and glasses when his eyes feel too sensitive for the contacts. I like this idea mainly for the image of Pine in glasses. :D

I could go either way on the Tarsus IV thing.

See, in my personal fannon, all the chages between PrimeKirk and RebootKirk are a result of the RebootKirk's premature birth.

My line of thought would be that since he was born 2 months early, he was given various genetic growth treatments that may have worked a little too well - they even added to his height. Similarly, the eye color is a result of genetically or medically repairing vision damage from his premature birth (my sister is a visual impairment specialist, and most of her clients were born prematurely and lost vision as a result).

That's how I explain it to myself anyway, and then I keep writing what I like. But almost all my fics have a variation of this idea ;)
