This is dedicated to sidara. Inspired by sidara's fic Subtracting the Stars, this isn't a scene from the story but rather a reinterpretation. In her brilliant story, immediately following the movie, Jim works himself to the edge for the sake of the ship and crew, and I believe at some point McCoy renders him unconscious for the sake of his health. I was inspired to show the aftereffects and in doing so, I was struck by the dichotomy of the advanced medical equipment in the med bay contrasted to a subconscious effort on McCoy's part to gauge Kirk's physical condition through a simple reassuring touch.
At least, that's what I was going for.
