I'm enjoying all of the stories in this series, and I really love the interaction between McCoy and Spock in this one. I love how you write Spock with these raw, jagged edges that keep coming out.

I'm really glad you're enjoying it! It was a lot of fun writing their interaction, even if I did drive my beta crazy by constantly asking if it flowed properly (it got away from me several times...). I do see XI Spock as having a lot of raw edges--he's a lot younger, and he's lost so much so quickly. It's very interesting to try to tease apart how he'd respond to things.

Okay, so, I missed this beoe, but it's McCoy!Fic. Because there i snot enough medical McCoy fic.

Also, you said hybrid vigor, which I love you for, because Psock really has the strength of both species- and the pontetntial weaknesses!

And talk of Romulans- whoo!

And talk of ethics an dmorality just like in Old Trek! Yayness!

And Kirk growing up- but still the star!

*hugs so tight*

YOU KILL ME WITH AWESOMENESS!

*blushes* Thank you! I'm glad someone else out there caught the "hybrid vigor" and liked it. The zoologist in me was wondering if it was too esoteric to put into a fic, but I couldn't resist. Starfleet doctors--they're the veterinarians of the future.

I really enjoyed getting into a swinging McCoy/Spock ethical debate. It's how I've always known the characters (I grew up on TOS), and I think it'll still be a big part of the XI characters once things settle down.

Anyway, really glad you got such a kick out of this chapter!

This is absolutely brilliant. I loved the interaction between Spock and McCoy, and I loved seeing Kirk's loyalty in action. Also, Bones being all doctor-y is fantastic.

Thanks! I do love getting to play doctor along with Bones. He's got quite the interesting case load, in a somewhat horrifying way. XI Jim is an absolute blast to write.

I'm liking this series more with each installment. The medicine is very believable (I saw above you work in the field, which I'd expected.

Equally believable is the characterisation, with all the characters at their best but still them. I particularly liked McCoy's switch from joshing to serious medic, and Kirk out for blood.

I look forward to the rest of the stories.

eta: your icon, I love it!

Thanks for both the story and the icon love! I adore your icon, too.

I'm close to getting my veterinary degree, and I'm definitely borrowing heavily from my field for these stories. I figure Starfleet doctors are a lot like vets--aliens roll across the surgical table, and you try to recall everything you possibly learned about them and cross-reference everything else to species you're more familiar with. You get whatever additional information is available, and then you cross your fingers and pray.

Thanks again for the very kind comment!

I just came across this series and I love it! All your characters come through so clearly! I'm not familiar with Old Trek, but I'm loving all the New Trek anyway. :D

Question: 2nd to last paragraph where McCoy is "chief medical examiner", did you mean medical examiner like the people who work in morgues?

I'm really glad you're enjoying it. New Trek has rekindled my love for Old Trek which feeds my love for New Trek... it is a vicious cycle I don't think I'll be breaking out of anytime soon.

As per your question... I may very well have gotten his title wrong. That should probably be chief medical officer. I really should have let my beta rest from vacation before assaulting her...
