I don't remember if I've already commented on this, and I'm lazy, so I'm just going to comment anyway. :)

I've had this open in a tab for at least a week. I've already rec'd it to one person, and it's going on the (eventual) list I'm going to post in my journal. Simply put, it's one of the very best fics I've read, in any fandom.

You manage to make the pain and loss that we somehow don't feel at the end of the movie, what with the triumphant commissioning/award ceremony and the hopeful embarking into adventure, and package it up into something that settles right down in the bones.

I wanted to know who those cadets were who were in the room first. I wanted to see the campus devoid of upperclassmen, with three years' worth of cadets suddenly having the reality of Starfleet shoved in their faces.

I wanted the heartache, and I'm usually all for happy endings.

I was and am happy with how the movie ended, but this feels so true it aches, in the best possible way.

:D

Wow, thank you so much for taking the time to write this -- that is really heartwarming feedback. I'm glad that we were able to touch on some of the melancholy that the movie missed (for good reasons, given the adventure focus, but that's what fic is for, right?). I am very humbly pleased to have earned a place on your rec list, and I look forward to seeing what else is on it.

Thank you!
