This may be a stupid question, but have you read Atlas by distractedKat? It's kind of a fandom classic at this point. It features smart!Jim, righteously rebellious!Jim, Jim/Spock slash (slowish build) and fucking epic crew friendship. Also, Jim's dark past fucking up his present and his crew helping him kick its ass.
Basically, it's my favorite Trek fic. Ever. Which is saying a lot.

*grins* I have most definitely read Atlas! I read it back in the ooooold days when it was Atlas by Angelbaby1 on Fanfic.net :P Such a fantastic fic! I love re-reading it when I need a pick-me-up, thanks for pointing it out! <3 I know normally it's not the done thing to exchange recs but have you read Home by Lanaea?

I have!!! I like it as well, but not quite as much. It features a Jim who reminds me a little too much of myself (he's insecure and kinda freaks when he fucks something up. Heh).

Did you know there's a podfic of Atlas floating around the internetz? :D
