Good night, Dr. Chapel.

I am surprised that only one of my friends has mentioned her passing. Majel Barrett Roddenberry passed away on Thursday morning of leukemia.

My husband had seen it on Digg and mentioned it to me that night.

Her voice will be missed. But she will live on in many reruns of all the series she was involved in.

So I didn't feel like just 'posting the already posted'

I did respond in at least three saying 'The First Lady of Star Trek will sorely be missed'

I always admired her.

Oh, ok. Maybe less of those on my f-list are trekkers. She will be missed.

I think a lot of your friends are costumers and SCA (though they should be into trek too :)) But a lot of mine are a bit...odd

There is rumor she managed to get most of the new script recorded before her death. It was not unexpected from what two folks posted to the Saratoga.

The second link I posted said she had finished her voice parts.

"As recently as 10 December, it was announced that she was to be heard yet again as the voice of a Starship computer in yet another Star Trek movie, directed by J J Abrams.

It was being reported yesterday that Majel Roddenberry had already completed the voiceover work, so that eerily, the voice that Star Trek fans have been hearing for 40 years will ring out again in cinemas around the world next year, its owner having already departed on the final voyage."

A lot of my other f-list friends, here and on Facebook, had mentioned her passing. She will certainly be missed: She and her husband offered a bright and hopeful future in a time when most movies about the alien 'other' only offered a bleak outlook for humanities future.

Let's hope we all live up to their expectations!

Star Trek was very influential on me, and is probably at least part of the reason I hold such liberal views.

I have to wonder how this will affect the franchise. Is it now firmly in Berman's hands, or will it be placed elsewhere? Will our election of an intellectual African American stimulate a resurgence in the franchise?

Time will tell.
