Ok, I have just about had the last straw on advanced_sewing community. WTF is this question about the difference between a half-circle and a full-circle skirt? How is this an advanced sewing type of question? That is a basic sewing question, so find a more basic sewing community to ask it on ( Read more... )

What's the difference between a half-circle skirt and a full circle skirt? I'd say.....half-a-circle. :)

Do I win?

I tried to answer as politely as I could but umm...a three year old should be able to answer that question. I half felt like saying "One is a circle, the other is half of a circle, duh!" But with Christmas around the corner, I've been in too much of a good mood to be mean. :-)

Let me know if you start a comm like that. I'll join. And you'll only get really dumb stuff from me when I'm having a really ditzy moment. :)

They were looking for ideas to make their tatoo, that was related to sewing. Like needles & thread spools or something. Not really what the community is about.

I don't even really pay attention to the communities anymore, only stop if a word or picture really manages to catch my attention as I'm scrolling by now days.

I think we get the dumb questions ("there's no such thing as dumb questions, only inquisitive idiots") largely due to massive amounts of 'everyones special!' for the last 20 years or so.

I mean really.. I was watching (well, trying like hell to ignore - but it seeped in anyway) Little Einstiens (Disney)with Moira yesterday before she went to school. The story plot was something about a little totem pole that didn't have it's story yet, but then the ice/snow it was on broke off, and it was floating down the river.

The kids in the show are all "Oh NOES!! We have to Rescue the POOR totem pole!!11!!" I lost self control and screamed at the TV "It's WOOD!!! It FLOATS!!!"

What I'm kinda getting to is that the level of stupid that's fed to kids today in the name of 'education' is rather staggering when I compare it to my own childhood memories.

Ok, sorry. Ranting done now.

I hear your rant. One reason we switched to watching other types of kids shows, although so many drive me nuts. I liked Dora because she didn't want to be a princess, she was an explorer, so now... they've made her into a princess or a mermaid or have her riding a pegasus, and not so much the smart explorer she once was. I won't go into how kids shouldn't be roaming around on their own, as that's a whole other issue.

I am just tired of answering the simple questions... you know, the one's where a simple google search can provide a whole wealth of info. {sigh}

That's kinda sorta where my rant was heading.. It looks an awful lot to me like kids are taught to ignore common sense/logic issues now. Never mind that the stupid log wasn't in any danger because it's wood and can float, you need to save the poor thing anyway! (Circle = round Half circle = not round)

Morgan has actually gotten in trouble in class before, because she's pointed out to her teacher something in a lesson that made absolutely no sense. She wasn't supposed to care about or notice that, she was only supposed to come up with the answer that was wanted at the end. *grumble*
