Lay-away for Christmas

Oct 23, 2008 18:46

Remember I brought up Lay-aways some time ago? Well, last night I saw a commercial with K-mart showing how one can do lay-aways for Christmas presents.

And then there is this article, and it mentions K-mart. I think it is a good thing to go back to. Pay for things you want before you bring it home.

So, lay-aways anyone?

LOOOOOOVE layaway. Better than credit anytime. No interest, for one thing, and if you can't pay it out for some reason, put it back for a small fee, no harm no foul....

PLUS - if you're buying lots of kiddie presents, the store "hides" it all for you till Christmas or birthday or whenever.

And oh yeah, at Kmart in particular (since they bought Sears) you can score you some Craftsman tools, Kenmore appliances, etc, on layaway instead of a Sears credit card. Again, Ta-dah, no interest!

Yeah, I like that idea... layaway the tools my husband wants, and the toys the kids want. I only wish there was a KMart that was closer, but they closed down most of the stores in my area.

Layaway at K is how we're building up Himself's tool kits now - if he finds loads of little stuff, or a big expensive thing, it's good either way.
And every once in a while I sneak in a Martha Stewart for-the-house thing, as long as he doesn't see the name.

Kmart and Walmart are about the only places left to shop here without going out of town, sigh... a 2.5 hour trip to the mall on a GOOD day.
And it really bites because we used to have a very nice fabric store until Walmart came in - and now that the fabric store is gone, the craft section at Walmart is disappearing bit by bit.

I used to do that every year, as a kid. I'd put presents for mom and dad on layaway, and they'd take me to the store (usually Sears) on alternating weeks, and I'd put some of my allowance toward their presents.

I was surprised when many stores stopped doing the layaway program. With my utter refusal to deal in credit cards, it made gift-buying less of a big deal, and more of a "Well, what can I afford right now". Glad to hear it's back.
