I love the staircase. I would probably get distracted and fall down the stairs though, especially with the weird shape of the stairs.

The offset stairs like the second are often found in yachts, where deciding if it's stairs or a ladder is often a gray area. You will also find built-in storage bins & shelves in yacht passageways like the those around the stairs, but usually with doors or drawer fronts. I think that if I was going to do stairs like that, I would include sliding Plexiglas doors in front of the books.

You only have a couple of rooms in your house where the hidden door bookshelf would be effective. It is nice, though.

Otoh, you could expand into your attic, and put the staircase in for that purpose. Heh.
