"You pay peanuts, you get monkeys."

Is this human resource wisdom? Or just common sense? In a company that is scrimping and scraping, the quality of the people they retain gets poorer and poorer.

If people are treated like mere statistics, do they not pick up on that, and reflect that in their work?

Worse still, I see people throwing loads of bucks to monkeys when everything was booming early this year!
