I imagine this sort of thing varies a lot by location - but I still see plenty of hankies in the bars here in California. Mostly the "basic" colors - blue, black, grey, yellow, red - but occasionally some of the others.

Here we see people in the leather community flagging. These days the most common are Red and Yellow. Personally I haven't flagged in years. After it got to the point where you need to carry around a Panchromatic chart with you when you go out it all got kind of silly. And in bar lighting, is that gray or light blue? Which shade of light blue? Oh, wait! It's really a purple.

It seems that the folks that flag these days have gone out with having one particular type of sex that day. Were I to see you wearing your colors I'd gladly haul you home. But with me it's more the man I'm with that is important. Just no blood or scat.

The fact that your dude is "off the grid" is hot in itself! :-)

OK, off to look up hanky codes again...

I'm always out of the loop.

I was new in SF in the late 70's and out one night and had a guy salivating over the size of my wide peasant hands. I had just realized he was cruising me when he came over and asked me to come home with him to fist him.

My jaw dropped. WTF?

I declined. He was ticked when I said I didn't fist. He pointed to the red bandana in my left pocket.

I have allergies, I protested.

"Why is it on the left?"
"I'm left-handed." and out of the loop.

The hanky thing is bizarre and like many 1970s' things don't need to happen anymore.
