I love Amphigory's wigs, but sometimes their colors are WAY off. I ordered a wig in their "izzy" color, figuring I would get a dark purple wig that would work for Anthy.
HAHAHAHA. No. I got this super shiny pinkish-purple wig that made me want to cry. I had to hand color the whole fricking thing with sharpies to get the dark purple color suited to the character.
Yeah, Patti told me about that story. :/ I'm already expecting the color to be completely and utterly off. I guess I'll have to take it from there. We were trying to see if it was possible to give the wig a "bath" or something. But we can't find anything right now that doesn't require heat. Which, in our last purple wig attempt, turned out to be a fun "poodle like" disaster. *snickers* But Patti and I both agree that the bangs on the current wig just look rather awful. *sighs* This means that we are learning a hard lesson. Put the wig on after styling it to make sure it looks good. @.@
Thank you! ^_^ I'm just glad that it's done and I'm onto the next one. ^^;
You might want to try Katie Bair's wig dye.. I know Patti isn't a huge fan of her wigs, but the dye has worked well for Meg and I on the various ocassions we have used it. I'd let you borrow mine but it's a curly mess at the moment and in severe need of repair ^^;
Thank you! *crosses fingers* The wig will be here in a week, so I hope Patti and I can figure it out in record time. We are going to play around with some stuff on white hair that she cut off from a previous wig and see what works in terms of coloring. ^_^ Someone gave us a tip that a bottle of alcohol and a sharpie soaked in it will make a wig dye bath???? Hmmm. So we get to play while we wait for the wig to come in. *sweatdrop*
I'm actually still thinking about experimenting with wigs and even armor some more during the Fall since I never got around to it this summer. Should be interesting.
I've heard of drawing on wigs with Sharpies, but making a wig bath? Sounds fun. ^^; Really. Don't dye your hands purple!
Now, on coloring wigs with sharpies. That's a no no. Sharpies take a really long time to hand color on wigs and can bleed onto your costume afterwords. I usually use a fabric marker to hand color with, which DOESN'T bleed onto my costume. YAY! On problem. I don't have the time to hand color a wig that comes down to my ass in two weeks. >.< So, we shall experiment! WHOOT! I think it might be possible for the alcohol to "dry up" the dye in the sharpie so that you don't get that bleeding problem, but we shall see when we try it out this weekend. ^_^;;;
If you ever want to try out "fun with armor" I reccomend starting out with craft foam and this great stuff called "foam finish".
There's the link. Great stuff. I use craft foam, paint several layers of that stuff on. Sand it down till it's smooth. Then paint it and put a coat of laquer on the top. XDDD
