What a beautiful and interesting story! At the first few sentences, I was wondering if I would like it or not, because I'm not such a sci fi fan... but I loved the story, and loved your writing. You give such a sense of wonder, both on approaching the ship, and especially during the memories. Like others, I too am curious as to what happens next, however I think the way you framed this is simply perfect, with a new life waiting ahead for Severus and Hermione.

One phrase stood out, by the way, and will remain with me:
It's a beautiful thing, watching Severus Snape do magic.

That image of Hermione watching him as he tries to peel back the ward's layers, shedding some of his own layers, is really a lovely word picture.
