Substantiating Invisible Disabilities

Does anyone have experience with an SSI application based on migraines or something like chronic fatigue? I just had a denial after my hearing, and the administrative law judge wrote something about migraines not being medically verifiable. I don't know what I am going to do because I cannot prove that I get migraines.

All I can tell you is that I know a friend's mom that is on SSDI for chronic migraines. I'm not sure how many times she had to appeal though.

On anything, denials are normal. It took me three years of appeals on my case, despite my conditions being verifiable. Get as much documentation from doctors as you can. Talk to psychologists about the effect of the conditions on your life and get their write-ups. It helps.

i'd suggest meeting with a social security lawyer. they have experience dealing with *proving* this kind of stuff and are more familiar with what judges want to see.

most social security lawyers will not charge you if they fail to get you approved. if/when you are approved, then they take their fee out of the backpay you are awarded.

i was awarded SSDI for my mental illness. it took multiple appeals and a hearing in front of a judge. the hearing did not go smoothly. i would not have gotten approved without the lawyer and all his documentation. their job expert insisted that even though they agreed i was mentally ill, i could still work full time/gainful employment at some other job. it wasnt until faced with documentation of my attendance record at my last full time job that he was forced to admit that no employer would keep an employee hired on who regularly missed so much work.
