Shine 16 | A Maiden's Will ~ Memories

Oct 09, 2012 10:19

[1[Shortly after the mission, Sora's in the hangar looking at Desu Itsuki. The girl seems to be concentrating; where the suit's left leg should be is still bright yellow and nondescript, but starting to show an odd visual effect, almost like static. There's a massive clamp holding the unit up from behind, just in case. Sora herself has a small ( Read more... )

A year ago, I'd never would have dreamed of even being here, more or less being a PreDesu...

[At that, Hana walks up, standing beside Sora.]

You did good out there, despite everything that happened. [She stopped and looked away a bit.] Eheh, I shouldn't be talking like I'm the experienced one here...

But you are, can't you see? The only extra experience I have is all just being able to get in Desu Itsuki and have it start up properly. I've been a pilot for less time than you have, truthfully. And in some ways, you're stronger than I am. We've both come a long way in a year's time.

[She shakes her head.] I'm glad everything went okay, but... I need new tricks, bad. I have a few ideas, though...

Heh, I guess we have. I'm sorry, I guess I worry that I'm trying to make everything about me again so I keep double guessing myself.

[she lets out a small sigh to gather her thoughts before looking up at the Itsuki.]

...if we were back at Fairy Park, I'd ask to see if we could upgrade the Itsuki to something like how the Tsubomi and Erika are.

[Her head tilts slightly as she starts rambling a bit.]

Add larger skirting for leg protection, maybe something of an extra jacket over the body... I think we still have the old bracers I designed for the Tsubomi and Erika when I first came on board...

Mm. It's good to be humble, but everyone needs a little pride in their work. It's just finding the right balance. I need to work on that a little, myself.

See... that's the other difference, and it's why I like asking you for advice. I tend to think of ways to use magic to do new things. You tend to actually think in terms of mecha, which I forget sometimes. I... well, this is the easiest way to explain. [With a gesture, Desu Itsuki's left leg is mostly gone and replaced with a sparking stump up to where the upper thigh would be one one of the girls.]

Hey Red...

Uh...? What the heck's going on here?

[She's looking pretty confused here.]

Hi, Mad. [Sora spares enough attention to smile at the girl.]

I'm practicing a new ability I didn't know I had. [The energy on the ground starts to form into two sticks, crossed in the middle... with handles on one end?] It's quite versatile, though it's harder than I thought it would be.

[After another few moments Sora bends down and picks up the completed item, apparently a set of some kind of gardening scissors, and examines them, breathing hard as she does.]

Damn! Looks like that thing Jeremy did when...

[Mad suddenly winced... okay... not a good memory to bring up.]

How do you did you figure you could do this anyway?

I panicked while I was falling to what I was expected to be a very painful landing, and I just sort of... reached for my power and let it take over. I'm glad it worked, else I'd have broken a few bones for sure.

(Momo walks in with a small but proud smile. It was nice to see the younger PreDesus grow.)

That is an interesting ability Sora. How long have you been working with it?

...ten minutes? I don't actually know how this works yet. [She's not paying a whole lot of attention to Momo, instead trying to get her object to form. It's taking shape into a cylinder of some kind... there's a handle... and a spout?]

Crafting complete! [And wiping the sweat from her forehead, she picks up the watering can she's formed and dumps water inside, grinning.] That was a little harder than I was expecting, though...

(Momo is indeed impressed by Sora's power.)

Amazing. Hey, do you think you could fashion actual weapons with this? If you get it down, you could materialize basically any kind of weapon for the situation.

[The girl blinks.] Weapons? You know... that's a good question. Let me see how this works, and I'll try that in a minute. [Can full of water, Sora takes it over to the flowers and tilts it... and frowns as nothing happens.] Why isn't this... oh, I forgot to put holes in the spout. Silly me. [She closes her eyes, and after a moment the end of the spout glows and there are drain holes, and she opens her eyes and tilts her head at the result.]

That's handy... I could see this being very useful for something that needs to change slightly on the fly. I wanna try it for armor, too, and for things other people could use...

[Jeremy's watching rather intently, Sora!]

I see that you're beginning to recognize the utilities that an energy barrier can bring!

I admit, I just kinda reached out for whatever I could do with my power while I was falling, and... this is what came back. But I could definitely see this being useful, if I can get it to work on demand.

Practice will help a great deal. Once you're familiar with plenty of constructs and their uses it becomes much easier. You merely think "I need something for this task," and immediately the answer comes to you.

That... does seem convenient. Scary convenient, actually. I've got to work out a few more things to do, but... it's worked spectacularly once. Hopefully I can figure a few more constructs out...
