Resnick can be found in the comm room, excitedly bent over the console. He's grinning wide and looks like a kid on Christmas Eve. What's got him so happy?

Two voices from the speaker, clipped, proper: "Aff, Star Commander. There's no sign of the Wolves. Moving to investigate the beacon ( Read more... )

[Damn your hacking prowess, Hayato!] When Clan forces meet to fight a trial, the attacker declares the forces they will use. The defender responds with their own forces. Each goes back and forth, bidding away units. One gains more honor by winning with the smallest possible force. However the presence of freeborn troops such as yourselves will force the Falcons to bid dangerously low to save face.

[Resnick beams down at Herb. He's positively genki.] Three reasons. One, I can fight a battle that is truly honorable now. The Falcons have many flaws but they always fight strictly by zelbriggen. Two, it means that whether we win or lose, the Refusal War is finally coming to an end. And three, because of that, someone holding one of the slots for a bloodname I am eligible for has been killed, meaning I will probably be nominated to fight for a bloodname myself.

Ooh, a honorable battle eh? I agree, nothing beats a good clear honorable fight!

I don't really understand about the other two, but the first reason is good enough.

The Refusal War is the war we were fighting with the Jade Falcons, mainly an idealogical dispute. A bloodname is the surname of one of Kerensky's original eight hundred warriors. Winning one guarantees one's genes will be used to create the next generation of our Warriors.
